Why Choose the YCCH for your homeopathy training
The YCCH is completely independent and offers training like no other College. Our Training is intellectually challenging, engaging and fun. We promote critical and creative thinking in an environment of deep respect, inquiry, debate and understanding. We believe that simply amassing knowledge and memorizing a great number of remedies is not enough, our students learn to really understand what Classical Homeopathy is all about, what makes people dis-eased and how to return them to health.
The Three year course we offer is structured in a logical, integrated yet flexible manner providing progressive learning in the principles and practice of Classical Homeopathy.
We keep our classes small so that every voice is heard and that every student feels valued. We understand that each student learns at their own pace and we ensure that every student receives the very best teaching and personal guidance we can give based on over 20 years experience of teaching and helping people to better health through Classical Homeopathy.
The YCCH teaches from only the most proven material on the art and science of homeopathy from the leaders of modern classical homeopathic thinking, referring often to the teachings of Dr Paul Herscu (Analysis using Cycles and segments) and George Vithoulkas, along with the works of the ‘Old Masters’ such as Kent, Bonninghausen and especially Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, Hahnemann’s Organon of medicine underpins all our teaching and provides the foundation from which we build.
“The physicians high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure, as it is termed.”Aphorism 1 Organon of medicine
Three Year Professional Training Course in Classical Homeopathy
The three year professional training course is the very heart of the YCCH. It is here that students are inspired to explore the principles and practice of Classical Homeopathy. It is a rich and dynamic training course that provides a firm foundation and opens the door to a future of fascinating discovery and meaningful work. The course is offered on a part-time basis, in order to accommodate working adults. Throughout the three years, students follow a carefully crafted yet flexible syllabus of academic and clinical study, designed to thoroughly prepare them for registration and practice.
In the first two years of training, the time is equally divided between studying the homoeopathic remedies (Materia Medica), and the principles and methods of homeopathic practice. These two areas of study form an integrated whole. The remedies are taught in their depth and range, and in the invaluable context of the relationship to other remedies. The principles and methods are taught in the inspiring context of Hahnemann’s Organon of Medicine, which students learn to use as a practical guide, enhanced and elucidated by modern sources. This develops the strength of thinking homoeopathically. First and Second year students observe and contribute in live clinic cases, learning the skill of case-taking, which takes homoeopathic thinking into the realm of practice.
In the third year, active clinical casetaking is added to the curriculum. The time is divided between clinical training and advanced application of the principles and practice of homeopathy, along with additional study of the medicines. During this year students are encouraged and assisted to prepare their own portfolio of cases for registration with an awarding body of their choice
At the end of the third year final assessment takes place with an optional fourth year offered to students who may need more time to complete their studies and/or portfolio of cases.
Classes are held from September through to June and/or January through to December (with a two month Summer break) They are scheduled on one weekend a month. Individual assessment (through assignments, class participation and personal reflection) is ongoing throughout the course and tutorials are held on a regular basis.
A recommended book list is provided prior to the course starting.
Three Year Curriculum
• 1st and 2nd Years
These first two years lay the groundwork with thorough training in homoeopathic philosophy and material medica, along with the methods and basic skills needed for practice. The history of homeopathy is taught and students are introduced to the works of old and contemporary masters of homeopathy. Students learn the characteristic picture of each remedy in the context of its relationship to other remedies, as well as the deeper aspects of the medicines, which address the inherited disease predispositions. Students learn to use the homeopathic symptom index, the Repertory, with creative thinking, precision and speed. They learn the art of case-taking, and the skill of case analysis, along with the critically important method of tracking and analyzing the responses to treatment. Classroom teaching is complemented by home study, written assignments and exercises.
• 3rd Year
In this Year, students begin taking cases under supervision and build up a portfolio of cases in preparation for registration . This is all integrated with more advanced analysis and methodology. Much of the time in this year is spent working with live, video and paper cases in the YCCH’s Student Clinic and in class
Students who do not have a medical background are advised to take a basic Medical Science (A&P) course either at the YCCH or elsewhere.
• Throughout the Three years the student is led through a progressive process of learning how to think homoeopathically. It is mastery of this skill, rather than adopting the latest homeopathic fads, or simply amassing knowledge that allows one to tackle any case with confidence. It provides a clear framework for understanding the case, deciding on the prescription, and interpreting the results of treatment. More than anything, this is the vital core of the course. Learning to think homoeopathically takes time and practice, but it is the key to good results, time after time, case after case.
• Individual attention to the development of each student is a hallmark of the YCCH. During the entire course each student receives extensive feedback on class and clinical work and participates in a dynamic process of collaborative learning.
“The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health, or removal and annihilation of disease in its whole extent, in the shortest most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.”
